Artist's Description:   A mallard pair and a handsome wigeon drake take a moment near an unfrozen backwater as they rest and save energy for the upcoming migration and breeding season.  It is not uncommon for flocks to mix during the winter months before they search for a mate.  Species may even cross breed making for some interesting color patterns on their offspring.
