Plein Air Paintings Added to Website |
|
|
A new page of original 'plein air'
paintings has been added to the Mathios
Studios website. Plein air is a French
term originating from the French
Impressionist period and is defined as
'open air'. Basically, each plein air
painting is a quick impression of a
place and painted as a study. While
painting in this style, the artist
captures the essence of a place by
applying paint quickly as the weather
and light of a scene constantlly change.
As a result, there is a lot less detail
in each painting as compared to a
meticulously planned studio painting.
Through the years, there have been many
plein air paintings completed by Mathios
and only a handful currently available.
They are reasonably priced and a great
way to make the jump from collecting
prints to collecting original artwork.
Each painting is completed on an 8"x10"
stretched canvas, which is a standard
frame size and a perfect size for any
collection. |

Two New Prints Released |
Wild Wings has officially released the new
print "Lessons" and has included it in
the Fall 2007 catalogue. However, only
18 Artist Proofs remain available
through the Mathios Studios website. The
open editon is available through
www.wildwings.com.
Another new release is the 2008 Oregon
Ducks Unlimited "Artist of the Year"
print. "Winter Hideaway" depicts a
mallard pair and a handsome wigeon drake
as they take a moment near an unfrozen
backwater, rest and save energy for the
upcoming migration and breeding season.
Monies raised from becoming a DU Sponsor
benefit wetland habitat throughout the
United States. |

Birds in Art |
|
|
The Birds in Art exhibition opens this
weekend in Wausau, WI and runs through
November 11th at the Leigh Yawkee
Woodson Art Museum. The painting
"Reflections" is exhibiting in this
prestigious show. For more information

Wild Wings Fall Festival |
|
Peter will have four original paintings
displayed at this years Fall Festival
that include "Greenwing Reflections"
(pictured), "Sunlit Sanctuary", "Icy
Ride - Hooded Mergansers" and "Song
Sparrow". The festival takes place
October 6-7 in Lake City, Minnesota and
features original paintings from Wild
Wings artists, live animal exhibits and
painting demonstrations. Everyone who
attends the festival receives a show
poster featuring pictures of select
originals. |
