The Art of  Peter Mathios

Artist's Description:    Gambel's quail are similar to the California quail, but can be distinguished by the black underbelly and the lack of scaling on the side of the belly.  The pancake pear cactus, also known as prickly pear cactus, is very common in the Sonoran desert.  I saw this particular scene near Tucson in June when the cactuses were beginning to flower and the monsoons were near.
