Autumn Interlude
|
|
|
18" x 36" acrylic
$6700 |
A graceful flock of northern pintail
circle low over a late autumn
cattail marsh. Pintails are strong
flyers that travel up to 2,000 miles
during their migrations. This group
is arriving at a beautiful spot to
rest and possibly even winter. This
large painting skillfully captures
the intricacies and depth of the
wetland and the weather giving the
viewer the feeling of being there
watching these pintails.

Cardinal and Blossoms
|
 |
|
9" x 12" acrylic
$1200 |
A striking male cardinal rests on
the branch of an apple tree. It is a
gray, overcast day during the early
spring, however, the cardinal's
brilliant plumage and the budding
apple blossoms hint of better
weather ahead. In this painting, the
brilliant reds of the bird are
subtly echoed throughout the
delicate flowers and artistically
complimented by the greens in the
mosses. |

Bluebird Morning - 2010
Ducks Unlimited National Stamp
|
|
|
7" x 10" acrylic
$3500 |
In this painting, the last of the
morning fog is burning off as a pair
of pintail leave the refuge of this
beautiful marsh to feed in a nearby
flooded field. During the latter
half of the past century, while
other waterfowl numbers reached
record highs, the pintail population
declined due to habitat loss,
drought and predation.
This painting has been created to be
the 2010 Ducks Unlimited stamp and
print. Proceeds from the sale of the
stamp and print will be used to
benefit the type of habitat seen in
the painting as well as many other
types of wetland habitat.

Wigeon Study
|
 |
|
8" x 10" acrylic
$800 |
As a single drake wigeon has just
landed near the muskrat den in this
cattail marsh, another flock of
wigeon gets ready to settle in. The
reeds in the foreground give the
viewer the hunter's point of view.
This study, which turned out to be a
beautiful little painting, was
completed as prequel for a larger
commissioned painting for the St.
Clair Flats Waterfowler's Inc. (SCFWI)
conservation group and will be
reproduced as a selectively limited
edition print later this summer. The
main objective of the SCFWI is to
generate local dollars to benefit
local conservation within the
historic St. Clair Flats area
located on the northern edge of Lake
St. Clair in Michigan. The area is
one of the largest fresh water
deltas in the US and their goal is
to maintain it's habitat for several
generations to come. |

The Challenger
|
|
|
13" x 26" acrylic
$3400 |
This larger original painting is
about the special time of year when
bull elk turn from friend to foe -
the rut. Each autumn bull elk gather
cows to breed and they need to
defend their harems from other bulls
who may want to steal away their
herds. In this painting, the bull on
the right has already moved his cows
away as a large and quite capable
challenger comes in to fight him.
Right now these elk are at the peak
of strength and health, but by the
onset of winter after breeding,
fighting and defending themselves,
the rut will have depleted and
exhausted these bulls. |

A Great Mother's Day Gift
Idea |
 |
|
Snowy Plover 5" x 5"
acrylic $245
|
The painting on the right is a good
example of one of Peter's daily
paintings, which average the size of
a postcard. Like his larger studio
paintings, each miniature is a
unique piece of art. Because of
their small size and the relatively
short amount of time they take to
create, these paintings are priced
much lower making them easier to
own.
Miniatures make a great gift and can
also fit into almost any decorating
situation, either in groups or as a
stand alone piece of art. They can
be set up on small table easels and
set under a favorite reading lamp or
they can be framed and hung amidst
your art collection. The
possibilities are endless to
accentuate a glimpse of the natural
world into a home or office.

South Platte Sunrise
- Artist Proof Edition 15" x
20" $145
|
Although the viewer cannot see the
duck blind, this painting re-creates
the view from one. It is that
special time of morning when
excitement courses through the veins
as the hunter first spots waterfowl.
"While painting, I constantly
daydreamed of days in the field and
conjured memories of first flights
of ducks", says the artist.
Throughout the past year, the
regular edition of this print was
used to raise money for upland bird
habitat at Pheasants Forever
banquets throughout the country, and
now the remaining prints of the 50
Artist Proofs have become available.
