"Bluebird
Morning-Pintail"
7x10
acrylic
on
board
|
The title of
this
painting is
a reference
to the clear
cool morning
that is
depicted as
a pair of
pintail
depart the
safety of
this marsh
to feed in a
nearby
flooded
field.
Wetland
habitats
like this
are
essential to
maintain
healthy
populations
of pintail
(as well as
many other
species).
They provide
places for
waterfowl to
rest and
feed so as
to build up
fat stores,
which in
turn, will
enable
spring
migration
and summer
nesting.
This
painting
will be made
into the
2010 Ducks
Unlimited
stamp and
print.
Proceeds
from the
sale of the
stamps and
prints will
be used to
acquire and
enhance
wetland
habitats
throughout
North
America. The
original
painting for
this
prestigious
program is
available at
the link
below.

"Monsoon
Shadows"
9x12
acrylic
on
board
|
Southwest
summers are
famous for
monsoon
thunderstorms
which begin
in late June
or early
July and
last into
September.
This
painting is
of the
Catalina
Mountains
just before
an episode
of these
thunderstorms.
The storm
itself
cannot be
seen in the
painting,
but the
dramatic
light and
shadowed
mountains
are
indicative
of the
approaching
storm.
