On the Run - Pronghorn

A male pronghorn antelope runs down a female that has strayed from his harem. "I saw this seen replay itself several times as another group of females was with another male not more than a mile away..."  says the artist. "The male was intent on keeping the does in a tight group so as not to lose one to the other group.  Pronghorn have large eyes which allow them to see a long way in the open country so the bucks were very aware of each other."

This 8" x 10" original painting will be available at the Ponderosa Art Gallery in Hamilton, MT for the 27th annual Fall Classics Show and will be exhibited alongside the work of Clyde Aspevig, Cyrus Afsary, Bill Anton and many other elite artists from around the country. The show runs from August 14th - September 18th. For more information you can call (406) 375-1212.

New Original -

Through the Narrows

This beautiful area is part of an island chain in the Queen Charlotte Strait where Peter and his family recently anchored for an evening after a day of fishing. The islands that dot this region are rugged and spectacular and his goal was to capture the essence of the area with one of it's main inhabitants - the bald eagle. After experimenting with several different bird positions (all in flight), this angle was decided on as it shows the eagle has just flown through the narrow passage between islands toward the viewer (an angle not often painted). The lichens and sealife on the rocks indicate the high tide line and adds a necessary splash of complimentary color to the cool blues.

In for the Evening

This 14" x 18" painting was a recently commissioned painting through the St. Lukes Jr. Auxiliary Auction and the proceeds were used to assist in the purchase of an ultrasound machine. If you have never commissioned a painting you may wonder what it is? In short, it is a custom painting specifically created for the client that is either from their photos, an idea they have in their mind or even a specific animal or scene they like. These pieces of art can be a pet portrait, a painting or drawing of children, or in this case a group of geese landing on a calm evening. For more information about getting your own personal drawing or painting and to see examples of some the commissions Peter has done recently, you can visit the commissions link on his webisite.

Wild Wings Fall Festival

  • This 12" x 28" painting, Columbia Divers, depicts a flock of greater scaup getting ready to land. There are several species of ducks already in the water including canvasbacks, a goldeneye, and a bufflehead. This is one of several paintings of Peter's that will be available at the 36th annual Fall Festival, an original painting showcase by Wild Wings' artists which takes place October 2nd & 3rd in picturesque Lake City, MN.
