Artist's Description:   I have spent a great deal of time in and around marshes while hunting and bird watching. Sighting and studying great blue herons is always a highlight because they gracefully blend into their surroundings and can lunge and kill their prey with lightning-like quickness. This painting portrays the statuesque posture of the bird waiting among cattails for an unsuspecting meal. The opening on the right side of the painting gives the bird an escape route and, compositionally combined with the branch of red alder, create a sense of depth.
