Artist's Description:  A handsome bull has steps out into a meadow to investigate a calling cow.  The chill in the air vaporizes his breath as the new day's sun illuminates the grasses in the meadow.  Summer's warm days are waning as autumn takes it's grip on the landscape signaling the start of the rut. 

Elk in the rut are among my favorite animals.  There bugles are haunting as they resonate through mountains and meadows.  Their behavior also changes as they become single-minded and more aggressive toward other males.

I watched this particular bull enter into Gibbon Meadows in Yellowstone National Park.  What made the moment more spectacular was a wolf howling in the distance!
